Q: How do I apply to Graland for my child?

Q: When is the Application for Admission due?
A: All application forms should be in our office by January 15, 2010 for admission the following fall.

Q: What tests does my child need to take?
A: Applicants for Kindergarten are required to take the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) or the Differential Abilities Scales (DAS II) by February 1.  Applicants for Grades 1-4 are required to take the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) or the Differential Abilities Scales (DAS II) by February 1.  Applicants for Grades 5-8, are required to take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination) administered at ACIS schools from December through February. For a schedule. refer to the test calendar and booklet in your information packet.

Q: When should we come for a tour and interview?
A: Our admission cycle begins in September. Tours are scheduled through Jody Senter, 303-399-8361, beginning in late September through January. Tours for Grades K-5 are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and tours for Middle School are held on Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Q: What happens during the children’s group visit?
A: The children participate in activities with other applicants in one of our Lower School classrooms. During the visit, teachers assess the developmental skills of each child. For applicants in Grades 3-8, your child will spend the day shadowing another student in his or her current grade.

Q: What happens during the parent interview?
A: This is an opportunity to ask questions on a one-on-one basis with a member of our admission staff. It also lets us get to know you and your child.

Q: What do you look for in a candidate?
A: We admit students who we believe will be enthusiastic learners. Our students come from all parts of the Denver metropolitan area, and from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We believe there is strength in diversity and in creating a group of learners who will take part in the experience together.

Q: What is the age qualification for a Kindergarten student at Graland?
A: Children must be five years old on September 1 of the year they begin school at Graland. The application process begins the preceding fall.
