Sixth Graders Study U.S. Wolf Policy
Wolves in Colorado? They’re not here yet, but we are getting ready for them.  Johanna Raquet, mediation associate from The Keystone Center, facilitated a mediation of sixth grade students regarding wolf management in Colorado.  Students researched the biologic and ecologic significance of wolves, learned about their impact on environments when they are returned and the interactions they may have with humans. The students represented stakeholders in the mediation including hunters, outfitter, environmentalists, local tourism business owners, animal rights activists, cattle ranchers, residents of Estes Park and national park representatives. After this experience, sixth graders know first-hand the difficulties of making science public policy in the USA.
