Veterans Celebrated at Graland

On Wednesday this week, students spent some special time learning about veterans, military service and significant world conflicts in honor of Veterans Day. We hope all our military families enjoyed a special day. Click for details, photos and an essay about veterans.
On Wednesday this week, students spent some special time learning about veterans, military service and significant world conflicts in honor of Veterans Day. We hope all our military families enjoyed a special day.
  • Kindergarten – Students got to thank a veteran in person when Ben Glyphis, grandfather of Gabriella, visited to share about his experiences as a fighter pilot in Vietam.
  • Grade 2 – Students learned about the Remembrance Day Service that is attended by the Royal family in London and made paper poppies to wear.
  • Grade 3 – Third graders journaled about veterans and made a poppy craft.
  • Middle School – Members of the leadership club sat down with three combat veterans to learn more about leadership in the military. Special thanks to Graland dads Mark Chandler (Colonel, Army), Frank Laden (Captain, Army) and Mark Schuler (Colonel, Air Force).

Veterans
By Anne Hawley, Grade 3
I believe that veterans have made a huge impact in our lives because they protect us and our country. They stand there with no fear still knowing their lives could be in danger yet, they still fight for us. They’re very brave and make peace between countries even if they are our enemies. I know that not many people think about them but without them many of you may not be here today if they hadn’t chosen to protect us and fight for us. They are the main source of protection to our beautiful country America.
