Impacting Students
My fourth graders are focusing on the theme of “kindness” and thinking about others in our community and what we can do to brighten their day. Recently, they read a picture book focusing on words of action like “create,” “fail,” “inspire,” “impact,” and “vision.” They immediately thought of a teacher in our community and realized that all of these words reminded them of her, and they wanted to create a book of their own with words about this teacher that explain why she is so amazing. This impromptu project embodies what I love about teaching at Graland.

Lifelong Learner
Cultural competency trainer Rosetta Lee continues to have an impact on me. Her ability to tell it like it is, back it up with research, and use humor to get her message across is inspiring. She recently presented to the kids about Pump Ups and No Joke Zones. I was able to build off of what she said to show my students how to coexist respectfully and look out for each other.

Feels Rewarded When ...
I accomplished something important and made a difference. I love when a reluctant writer proudly comes to me with a huge smile and a completed piece of work.

Outside the Classroom I’m ...
Playing with my 3-year-old son.
