Impacting Students
I enjoy introducing the Cuba unit for fourth graders. An island that is only 89 miles from Florida, but as Americans, we cannot freely travel there -- it truly blows the minds of students. "But WHY?" the students demand! It opens up a spirited conversation about communism, dictators, United States history, human rights, etc. I love the immediate engagement during this lively lesson.

Lifelong Learner
The Diversity Cohort changed my thinking so much about American History and white privilege. The book, Waking Up White, really spoke to me. I have always appreciated different cultures but understanding how history was taught to me as a youth, completely changed how I look at minorities. I love to study diversity issues and challenges at Graland and in our community.

Favorite Teaching Moment
Recently, a Spanish speaking parent told me that her daughter LOVES Spanish class and LOVES her teacher. This was an honor coming from a native speaker.

Feels Rewarded When ...
I overhear students speaking Spanish on campus in their own conversations.

Outside the Classroom I’m ...
Sitting at my embroidery/sewing machine.

Favorite Global City
Salamanca, Spain. My son studied there for a semester and I was able to visit him. I had never traveled there before since it's not always a tourist destination. I appreciated staying in one place for several days, auditing a couple of college courses in Spanish, and enjoying a smaller city with my family.

Life Goal
Visit Machu Picchu in Peru.

Fun Fact
I can grow almost any plant.
