Buddies: Monster Makers

Fourth graders and kindergartners collaborated on a Halloween-themed buddy activity in the Gates Lab as a fun way to practice empathy, be creative and get in the holiday spirit!
After hearing the book “I Need My Monster” by Amanda Noll, older students interviewed their buddies to find out what type of monster their kindergarten buddy “needs.” Using literacy skills like decoding and reading comprehension, the students brainstormed silly, glittery, pointy, werewolf, dragon or pink monsters to design and make. Next, they picked from a variety of materials purchased at RAFT, Resource Area for Teachers, and used their innovation skills to craft a uniquely-designed monster. It goes without saying, no two were alike!
