Grade 3: Authors Toasted at Publishing Party

Complete with sparkling cider, sweets and treats, third-grade authors were fittingly celebrated in the library after completing personal narratives, true stories of special moments in their lives.
In their first writing unit to start the school year, students selected a subject and proceeded to draft and revise their narratives to tell their stories bit-by-bit, adding dialogue, proper paragraphing, and clever leads and endings. The publishing party celebrated the final books, including illustrated covers and author biographies, that featured topics such as vacations, hobbies, hardships, and fun times with friends.

The personal narratives are the first of four “big” writing projects facing third-grade authors this year, according to Courtney Leigh, support teacher. “We wanted to celebrate their perseverance and to get them excited about writing,” she shared.
