Preschool: Building on the Construction Unit

Young learners in Sara Flansburg’s class got to handle tools used for construction when Caleb Johnston brought his dad, Gareth, to class. Mr. Johnston works in global construction management and is currently renovating his home with his wife, Jodi.
He discussed the heavy machinery needed to build a building like excavators, dump trucks, front loaders and cement mixers before demonstrating how a crane picks up and moves big objects. He also brought handheld tools for the children to explore such as drills, tape measures and levels.

Students have been learning about different kinds of buildings and the construction process. Next, they will travel around campus to observe the school’s buildings and maybe watch some construction happening in the neighborhood. Go learn!
