Grade 4: The Recorder

Remember learning to play the recorder in fourth grade? Fourth graders in Ms. Anna Phelan’s class have been handling this classic introductory instrument for the past three months as they continue learning to read and make music.
During a recent lesson, musicians practiced the Recorder Reminder Song, a short piece of music to help them master the basics of recorder play: “Left hand on top, not much in your mouth, cool air to the north, and hot air to the south.”

Several students volunteered to play the notes as everyone else practiced with their computers on the mute setting. Thank you to Ella Baker, Angel DeLeon and Nathan Koroluk for leading the way!

With a bit of experience with the recorder, students now have the opportunity to select a band instrument to play during middle school. Good luck!
