Grade 3: Becoming Expert Authors

This month, Grade 3 students have been working on writing chapter books on areas of their own expertise. At the start of December, the third graders picked topics like horses, ice skating, or babysitting and have been writing informational books, complete with an introduction and a conclusion. “Each chapter will include a picture, a caption, and glossary words,” Mrs. Julie O’Connor, Grade 3 teacher, said. “It’s a big project.”
Throughout the month, students have been hard at work writing each chapter and working with partners to edit, revise, and perfect the final product. The project will continue into January and when they’ve finished, they will celebrate with a publishing party and share their books with their peers. “They get to experience writing at every stage, creating drafts, revising, and illustrating,” Ms. Heather McCormick, Grade 3 Support Teacher, said. “It’s been so amazing to see how much their writing has improved.” Great job, Grade 3!
