GRALAND: A COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL

" It was well named Graland Country Day School, for it really was the country. Imagine to the east, nothing but sagebrush, rabbits, prairie dogs, and meadowlarks; to the south, large farms and dairies; to the west (now, the Cherry Creek shopping center ) the city dump (always catching on fire) which had a narrow road winding around the piles of rubbish and leading eventually to University Boulevard. It is amusing when passing some of the elegant structures in the Cherry Creek area today, to realize the buildings are sitting on old tin cans and the discards of an earlier Denver. To the north, wheat fields stretched for miles. The Cramner house to the east was on the hill with a rudimentary park in front. There was no Steck School or Hill School. . . Colorado Boulevard was a narrower, tree-lined street with little traffic. South of Ellsworth, Colorado Boulevard became a dirt road.”
