THOUGHTS ON ROBERT ROMERO

Philip W Hickey
These are some words I penned to honor Robert when he retired:

To describe Robert Romero as living legend understates our belief how much this kind, humble, and loving man has impacted the lives of Graland alumni and colleagues in his thirty-eight years as the quintessential coach, physical education teacher, and advisor. The Lower School children flock to this Pied Piper who has taught them to hop, skip, jump, and run all over Preisser Field; his teams worship his skills, his sportsmanship, his honesty, and his unflagging fervor for the game. Moreover, Robert has bridged the past-- he is a Graland alumnus, class of 1969 -- with the present. For so many, he has shared his affection for such Graland stalwarts as Dave Rice and Chet Preisser; he has movingly spoken about Tor Sarkisian for whom the excellence in lacrosse award was named. In fact, Robert is Mr. Lacrosse.
