MASTER TEACHER: ANDREAN ANDRUS (1982 -)

Philip William Hickey
A glance at Andrean’s art room could easily evolve into a three-hour investigation of everything in her room. It is a homage to baubles, bangles, beads and even bibelot--not to mention a rusty typewriter I covet. The room is but an introduction to the world of Andrean’s art. To Andrean, “Every human is an artist; the dream of your life is to make beautiful art.”

Three people--Judy Proctor, Sharon Rouse, and Kay Hanson-- collaborated on this tribute to Andrean. This trio served for years as the presidents and founders of the unofficial Andrean Andrus Fan Club. There are many members of that club.

“Each day at Graland with Andrean Andrus is like a box of crayons. With a passion for her students and the arts, she has opened the box and shared the colors with all of those she has touched in the past, is touching now, and will reach in the future. In the classroom, she approaches each day with creativity and the ability to develop new ways to present the curriculum. She has the ability to make the ordinary extraordinary, not only with media but also with the approach to the concept. Andrean’s belief in her students’ abilities leads them to achieve artistic successes and an understanding of the arts in their lives.”
