Starting in January with a trip to the National Western Stock Show, the kindergarten kicks off the unit on Life in the West that includes the lifestyle of pioneers, Native Americans, ranchers, cowboys and cowgirls. The celebration of their learning culminates in their rodeo performance at an all school assembly.
Fourth Grade Buddies
Each kindergartener creates a special relationship with a fourth grade buddy. The older students are an important part of many kindergarten activities. Together they walk in the annual Halloween Parade, make winter projects, sit together at assemblies, and participate in the Kindergarten Rodeo.
Honoring Each Child
We honor what makes each child special and unique through the All About Me project. The children share information about themselves and their interests. This project is followed up with creating family trees. Families present their traditions and cultures. These units of study highlight individuality, personal connections, and community.
The Great Pumpkin Hunt
Beloved Graland Coach Chet Preisser apparently created the Great Pumpkin story. Kindergartners go on a scavenger hunt for this magical creature. Once the Great Pumpkin is spotted, he runs away, always escaping capture by the children but leaving treats behind for his special friends.
