Name
My job
Head of Lower School, with Graland since 1990

In a nutshell
Nan supports young students and their families in finding the best path for a positive elementary education. I really enjoy creating a team approach to help a struggling student find success. By working with the family and teacher, it’s fun to see students progress and at the end of the day I feel a sense of accomplishment for making a difference.”

Career journey
Taught young students for 20 years, and never thought she would work in administration. Found her niche as a school
leader after a five-year stint in school admissions. Uses her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in educational psychology every day to approach challenges with confidence and skill.

Professional passion
“I love the cycle of a school year. When you start in the fall everything is new, and by the summer you’ve seen so much
growth in the kids. Working with our students makes me very optimistic about the future because we have amazing
young leaders who have a passion for making the world a better place.”

Personal side
Nan spent a summer in college volunteering at a camp for deaf and blind children, where she was awed by their bravery. “We played baseball using musical instruments to identify the bases,” she says. “The kids would run full speed toward the sound of a bell and I thought it was the bravest thing I’ve ever seen. I loved working with those kids and earning their sacred trust.”
