Grade 7 Alzheimer's Research Awareness Event

Grade 7 Hosts Evening of Alzheimer's Awareness
Wednesday, Feb. 20 / 6-8 p.m. / Anschutz Commons / REGISTER BELOW
Faculty Contact: Nanette Newman
Please join your child and the entire seventh grade class for a special evening inspired by our students' community service partnership with Sunrise Senior Living. This free event is designed to showcase student learning and educate the community about Alzheimer’s disease.
Throughout the school year, seventh graders provide companionship to Sunrise residents, many of whom have Alzheimer's disease. Student interest in this illness motivated teachers to design science, math, art and literacy lessons that explore various aspects of the disease.
Memory Box Project: Each student selected an older family member or friend to honor with a memory box created in art class. The boxes and accompanying biographies will be on display at the event.
Science Project: Students researched topics related to Alzheimer’s disease such as current treatments, causes and developments in the pursuit of a cure. Selected presentations will be on display.
6 p.m.: Enjoy pizza, soup, fruit, vegetables and cookies while reviewing student work
6:45 p.m.: Student Presentations and Keynote Speaker, Huntington Potter, PhD

Dr. Potter is a renowned scientist at the Anschutz Medical Center with impressive credentials in the fields of neurology and Alzheimer's research. In particular, Dr. Potter distinguished himself for his discovery of the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and Down syndrome.
  • Kurt N. and Edith von Kaulla Memorial Professor of Neurology
  • Vice Chair for Basic Research, Department of Neurology

We hope your family will come and see how our Graland curriculum has inspired us to action as partners in Alzheimer's disease awareness and research funding. Please register using the form on this page so that we may adequately plan for seating and food preparation.
