Dean of Grades 5/6, with Graland since 2010
In a nutshell
Ben supports and collaborates with students, faculty and families at Graland so our community thrives. “I’ve always seen myself as a change agent for growth. I work to keep firmly in mind what is best for students’ academic and social-emotional development. I can ‘meet them where they are at’ so they reach their full potential in and out of the classroom.” He also advises eighth graders in their transition to high school.
Earned degrees in psychology and worked for 20 years in counseling and education. Knows that “relationship is everything” when working with students; bases his professional approach on building trust, empathy and respect. Specializes in guiding middle schoolers as they mature and develop socially and academically.
Focusing on strengths. “It is invigorating to witness the amazing development of middle schoolers during their formative years on campus. I focus on their strengths during a time of rapid development when their confidence may be wavering.”
Ben grew up skateboarding and still enjoys riding his board and other board sports: snowboarding, wakeboarding, surfing. “My newest passion is river surfing the wave at River Run Park on the south Platte. There is no better feeling than standing on water.”
