Director of Programs, with Graland since 1990
In a nutshell
Di supports the School’s extracurricular activities like athletics, Extended Day, trips, service learning, the Gates Invention and Innovation Program -- everything outside of MESH (Math, English, science, history) that makes Graland unique and memorable. “The programs I support are avenues for adults and kids to make connections. These ‘extras’ are the heart of the school and help us develop well-rounded students.”
Played college basketball for Indiana University while earning a degree in physical education. Coached collegiate level women’s basketball at the University of Chicago and Yale University. Began at Graland as a PE teacher, then athletic director and now director of programs. Holds a master’s degree in athletic administration. Still teaches one PE class every day.
“It’s always fun to be on a team where everyone wants what’s best for kids. The relationships at Graland set it apart from other schools. Working with parents, faculty and administrators who value education is the best because all the parts are working for a shared purpose.”
Di grew up on a farm with hogs and cattle, where she learned to drive a tractor at the age of 6 when her dad put extensions on the pedals. “Being from a big family on a farm, you learn about being part of a bigger picture.”
