Impacting Students
I like teaching band students Sol feggio warm ups. They learn the hand signs and also can lead the band warm ups. We then expand it into a four-part round. Students are able to combine hand signs to communicate different patterns. It provides a opportunity to establish ensemble listening, eye contact and focus. When we begin each class with this type of warm up, it helps set the stage for the rest of the rehearsal.

Lifelong Learner
Attending the Formative Assessment conference provided me with tools that are quite useful in the music classroom. Since each rehearsal has different dynamics, pacing, and ability levels, I can quickly assess how students rate themselves on a specific skill. This then informs my teaching in "real-time" and I can adjust instruction on the fly to accommodate each learning style.
