Welcome to Graland

Letter from the Head of School

When I first visited Graland in early 2002 to interview for an English teaching position, I remember walking away from the campus to my car at Cranmer Park, looking over my shoulder at the green-tiled buildings and the mountains in the background and having a feeling of joy wash over me. I was so excited to join a community of passionate and skilled educators and to teach students who were diligent, talented and curious.

Now, over twenty years later, my appreciation for the school has deepened as, on a daily basis, I recognize the playfulness, the inventiveness and the eloquence of our students. From a kindergartener doing their first “Discovery” share to an eighth grader presenting their capstone project, I am amazed at Graland students’ ability to communicate their creative and critical thinking. I am equally awed by how our students embrace innovation. Inspired by empathy, they become both problem-finders and problem-solvers during activities like Tinker Time and the Gates Invention and Innovation Program. Finally, I appreciate our students’ dedication to growing both in character and intellect as they prepare to be engaged citizens and thoughtful leaders.

The success of our students comes from the deep commitment of our faculty. With compassion and competency, they foster in our students the skills to succeed. They consistently refine their craft to ensure that they can meet every unique learner’s needs through varied instruction and differentiation. They also push themselves to grow through innovating and collaborating with their colleagues, ensuring that Graland is continually improving and maintaining a joyful and engaging educational experience.

Throughout the school’s history, for over ninety years, we have been devoted to this tradition of excellence by providing students with experiences that broaden their perspectives and foster both their intellectual and character strengths so that they can thrive in school and in life.

I invite you to visit our campus to discover even more about our community. Like our teachers do with our students, I invite you to follow your curiosity.

Sincerely,
