Impacting Students
Lessons that have been most impactful on my students are ones in which they are able to apply mathematical concepts to real-world problem-solving. One particular lesson that comes to mind is a volume and surface area lesson in which students were shown a video of the state of lunches in public schools and were asked to use their knowledge of nutrition and volume and surface area to design food trays that will maximize the nutritional value of a meal. The students were passionate about this social justice issue that affects many students.

Lifelong Learner
I recently attended the People of Color Conference (POCC) in which I became empowered to help all my students to become more culturally competent and agents of change. This conference provided me with knowledge and tools that will help me better understand my students of color and how I may support their diverse needs. The conference also gave me the power to stand up and speak out.

Favorite Teaching Moment
When my students learn new concepts well enough to apply them to real-world problems.
