MASTER TEACHER: ARTHUR KENT (1950-1970)

Philip Hickey
Robert Romero ’69 was not only a former student of Mr. Kent’s but also a good friend. He wrote and delivered this remembrance in 1998.
“Arthur Kent was an incredible man, a fine teacher, an excellent coach, and an ideal father. He was the kind of person with whom one could talk about everyday problems. He gave so much time to the school: late games, long meetings, picking up his daughter at school-- he was forever on the go. Moreover, he had a way with words. He was also a patient teacher and readily understood that Latin was not an easy language to teach or speak. As a coach and mentor, Mr. Kent spent many hours hitting baseballs to me or throwing pitches so that I could learn to hit the ball better.

“He signified the qualities he hoped to instill in all of us: goodness, honesty, responsibility, and respect.”
