Science Teacher
Mr. Dodge enjoys learning from his fellow educators through cohorts, peer-led workshops and even just interacting informally. Did you know he is a Krav Maga and Jiu-jitsu instructor?
Impacting Students
I enjoy teaching any lesson (crush towers, Mythbusters, egg-drop, etc.) that challenges students to truly innovate and explore the imaginative depths of their own ideas. I love teaching because it is such an unapologetically optimistic endeavor. I really do believe that it is within children that lie our best hopes for compassion, thoughtfulness and the courage to pursue a brighter future.
Lifelong Learner
I am inspired by the creativity, resourcefulness, and compassion of those here at Graland who work with our students. Whether during cohort meetings, instructional rounds or simply interacting with others, I continue to learn new and better ways to connect with all kinds of kids. I don't think there is a teacher here who I couldn't learn something from.
Favorite Teaching Moment
There are times in teaching scale and distance in astronomy when kids reflect deeply for a moment and then whisper, 'Woooh!!' and I know that they truly get it. I love teaching astronomy, engineering, innovation and the Gates Invention and Innovation Program.
Science Fact of the Day
There are bright and obvious stars that we see in the night sky (and will continue to for thousands of years) that are not actually there, but have blown up hundreds of years ago, yet their light continues to span the light-years distance, and will do so for years.
Favorite Childhood Memory
Fishing with my dad.
Life Goals
Go fly-fishing in New Zealand.
