Holly Hudson

Kindergarten Support Teacher

Mrs. Hudson loves working at Graland because she learns so much from her amazing coworkers. She feels rewarded when her past students come back and give her hugs. Did you know she takes ballet and tap dance classes?

Impacting Students
I want to create a welcoming, loving environment where children feel safe. When they feel safe, they’re more likely to take risks with their learning and have the opportunity to grow even more.

Lifelong Learner
One of the best things about being a teacher is that we never stop learning. I have been through so many valuable trainings that has made me a better teacher for my students. I’ve especially enjoyed a training I had that helped me to look beyond the behavior and to investigate what the child is trying to say to us by displaying that behavior. We all have bad days, and we just need to find what that child needs to be and feel successful.

Favorite Teaching Moment
I believe kindness is so important. It is infectious. I enjoy lessons that include social/emotional learning and awareness. One of my favorite lessons is about filling buckets. It really sticks with the children, and they use the terminology often. 'He filled my bucket when...' 'You are filling my bucket!' 'You are dipping into my bucket.' It teaches children a way to learn how their actions have consequences. Whether they continue to use that language or not, they have the learned something that will continue with them throughout their lives.

Thoughts on Teaching
Children are amazing little beings. I love watching the growth they make in one year. I also love experiencing things through them in a way I haven't experienced it myself. My goal is to have a true 'learning through play' classroom. Interrupting children's play to bring them to a table to teach them what they're already doing seems counterintuitive. They need to take risks, touch more things, have more experiences. This gives them confidence.

Life Goal
Travel to New Zealand.

Favorite Childhood Memory
Going hiking in the mountains with my dad and two sisters.
