Did you know that Spanish Teacher Señora Piedad Rodriguez loves capybaras, one of South America's most recognizable animals? Ask her why they are her favorite animal!

My favorite unit to teach is the Kindergarten flores (flowers) unit because it brings together multiple disciplines and grade levels. Students apply what they are learning in science about what plants need to grow while building their Spanish vocabulary. They also learn about Colombia's Festival de las Flores (Flower Festival), create paper flowers, build a traditional silleta (flower display), and parade through the halls to share their learning with Pre-K students. I love seeing students take pride in teaching others what they have learned.

I am an avid reader and enjoy learning about different cultures and ways of life. I love meeting new people and try to stay curious about the world around me.

After learning about the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, a first grader asked to share his experience visiting a Mayan pyramid in Mexico. He was so excited to connect what we had learned in class to something he had seen in real life.

To see my daughter fulfill her dreams and, one day, retire in my home country of Colombia.
