Tara Kochevar

Assistant Athletic Director

Coach Kochevar’s professional passion is teaching character and sportsmanship above skill development. She is admired by other coaches and teachers at Graland for her creativity in teaching.

Impacting Students
I enjoy pairing fifth graders up to teach belaying in the climbing room. Belaying uses a rope system to protect a climber in the event of a fall, and this skill teaches them responsibility because they have direct control over their partner’s safety on the wall.

Lifelong Learner
I attended the SHAPE Colorado conference and it was nice to find new lessons that teach the same skills, bringing fresh enthusiasm to my practice.

Favorite Teaching Moment
When I told my Kindergarten class that I was having a baby, they had only two questions: "Where is it?" and "What are we doing today?" They were very ready to move on and get going.

Sports Fan
My favorite sport to play is volleyball because it is as much about positioning and placement as it is about power. I like to watch women's soccer because it's less about 'flopping,' and you can see the plays develop over the span of the field.

Life Goal
Visit all seven continents.

Best Childhood Memory
Creating forts out of found materials from the alley behind my house.
