Grade 7: Civil War Historians

To prepare for their trip to Washington, DC, seventh graders have been studying the Civil War with Mrs. Gaffga, and this week they gave presentations to their peers on individual topics. They dove deep into subjects like the role of black soldiers, wartime medical treatments, the structure of the Confederate government and weapons of the era.

They dove deep into subjects like the role of black soldiers, wartime medical treatments, the structure of the Confederate government and weapons of the era. For example, Charlie Whalen sat in on Eph Esson’s presentation about amputation and learned that, while the procedure could be lifesaving, “There was a high risk of disease.”
