Grade 3: Math Fact Families

Third graders in Cole Hamilton’s class worked their math brains with a lesson on multiplication and division. After warming up with a review sheet, they got to work learning properties of division and multiplication patterns. For example, they evaluated how numbers are connected in “fact families” -- 7x12=84 and 84/12=7.
“You should always be able to tell a logical story with a division problem,” shared Mr. Hamilton. “If I have 84 m&ms and I want to share them with 12 friends, each friend gets 7 candies.”
Then, the young mathematicians worked with a partner and a set of stacking cubes to show different ways to divide a number such as 32. Good work, third graders!
