Seventh Graders Delve Into the History of America's 13 Colonies

Graland's seventh-grade students took a deep dive into the past to study the 13 colonies that shaped the foundation of the United States. As part of their exploration, they examined the unique characteristics and influences of each colony, which provided valuable context for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C., this spring.
Under the guidance of History Teacher Mr. Jeff Wolkoff, students were assigned a specific colony to research. They investigated each colony's history, economy, politics, geography, and society. To further enrich their studies, they collaborated with Innovation Specialist Mr. Jorge Chavez in the Gates Invention and Innovation Lab to design and create flags representing their designated colonies.

Incorporating personal symbolism and taking cues from historical references, students brought their designs to life with the help of Mr. Chavez. Utilizing the lab's laser printer and painting their creations, they prepared presentations to share with their peers, explaining the significance of the chosen colors and elements in their flag designs.

By participating in this learning experience, students were encouraged to engage with the subject matter in a meaningful way. As they continue to study our nation's history and look forward to their Washington D.C. trip, Graland's seventh-grade students are fostering a deeper understanding of the historical foundations of the United States and their lasting impact on today's society.
