Grade 8: Boom or Bust

In Grade 8 history with Mr. Ben Simmons, students recently concluded their unit on World War I, the Great Depression, and the New Deal with a stock market simulation.
As part of the activity, students made investment decisions while receiving updates on market conditions and company performance, with each round representing a different moment in time. As the simulation progressed, students experienced the rise and fall of the market, adjusting their choices based on new information.

Through the exercise, students saw how factors beyond numbers, including human behavior and emotion, can influence the market. As conditions shifted, students reacted in real time, gaining insight into the uncertainty and decision-making that shaped the historical period.

The simulation gave students a deeper understanding of how the stock market contributed to the Great Depression and its broader impact on people and the economy.
