Grade 6: Driven by Design

Grade 6 students recently put their engineering skills to the test during the Recycled Roadshow in science with Mr. Aaron Murray.
For the project, students designed and built self-propelled vehicles using only recycled and reused materials, challenging them to think creatively about how everyday items can be given a second life. Materials included cardboard, plastic bottles, cans, packaging, and more.

Working individually or in pairs, students planned their designs, documented their process, and problem-solved throughout the build.

Students then showcased their vehicles before testing them to see how far and effectively they could travel using stored mechanical energy. The project emphasized innovation, sustainability, and thoughtful design.
