Grade 8 students recently completed their Capstone projects, a culminating Middle School experience in which students explore issues connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty, public health, education, environmental sustainability, and more.
Over several months, students conducted research, wrote papers, and participated in both class-wide and individual service-learning experiences connected to their topics before concluding the process with TED Talk-style presentations. During the presentations, students shared their research, reflections, and proposed solutions with classmates and educators.
As the final academic experience of Middle School at Graland, Capstone challenges students to think critically, speak confidently in front of an audience, and connect their learning to meaningful action. The experience also helps prepare students for the level of research, presentation, and discussion they will encounter in high school and beyond.
