Grade 6: Reflections on Mesa Verde

Students are using their Southwest Trip journals to write creative speeches aimed at future Graland sixth graders. They're pretending to return 10 years from now to share their experiences on the trip, what it meant to them and what they've been doing since leaving Graland. "The speech is different from an essay because they can share their insights in a more personal way and inject some humor into their storytelling," says English teacher Allison Birdsong. Students will practice their public speaking skills when they present to their classmates before three are chosen to speak at the upcoming academic assembly.
