Hazel Gates and the Donkeys

As I mentioned in my answer to the trivia question, Hazel Gates did present to the school two donkeys she had purchased on a vacation in Sicily. In my mind this is such an original donation to the school.

Charles Gates, Jr. remembered that one of the donkeys was named Macaroni. Later, “Chet Presisser and students built the new pets a Sicilian cart for the donkeys to pull.”

Just a wonderful story. When I leave Graland at the end of next year, I may donate my favorite grammar books to the school-- the entire HEATH HANDBOOK OF ENGLISH series. What a “catch” for the archives.
