MASTER TEACHER: GENEVIEVE JONES: PART TWO

Philip William Hickey

“Genevieve Jones! What a myriad of images and impressions the name must evoke. She was lively and petite, and, behind the thick lenses, her eyes sparkled with energy and determination. Other words come to mind remembering her: no-nonsense, enthusiastic, competent, spirited, and always fiercely loyal to Graland.

“Of particular joy to her was teaching modern dance and rhythm to the beat of her familiar little drum. The winding of the Maypole was a yearly rite, thanks to her. She was one of the rocks of Graland. She lived and worked within an unvarying code of ethics. Her expectations for students were challenging, and her words of praise were ample reward and incentive for the striving student. She was delighted to teach multiple generations.”

This is a teacher I wish I had met, for she reminds me of some teachers I adored as a child. Yes, I keep repeating myself about my desire to have met many teachers from Graland past.
