Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the whole squash in a baking pan. Pierce it in several places with a fork. Bake for one to one and ½ hours, or until the shell gives slightly when pressed. Also, the squash can be cooked
Fry the bacon until crisp. Drain and crumble it. Add a small amount of the bacon fat; saute the mushrooms and the green onions.
Cut the squash in half lengthwise. Discard the seeds. Pull the strands of pulp from the shell with a fork. In a medium bowl, combine the squash, bacon, mushrooms, nutmeg, green onions, salt, pepper, and cheese. Mound the mixture in the squash shells or in a shallow two-quart baking pan. Bake until heated through and serve hot.
