Last year, I devoted one long entry to the sixth grade Southwest trip which remains an important part of the sixth graders’ experience

I did not plan on mentioning the trip this year, but my discovering a quote from Nurse Judy Proctor changed my mind. I suspect most former sixth graders will nod their heads in agreement as they read what Mrs. Proctor told Mr. Fetter. “To bathe, (the students) had nothing but a garden hose. Students tried to clean up after the sun had warmed the water in the house because after that they would get a freezing shower. Most will remember the sunrise and sunset outhouses on either side of the property. It was traditional for children to write their names inside for a brother or sister to find years later.”
