In small groups, adults and students sat down and authors took turns reading their books. Each book had a cover with title, author's name and an illustration. Books also had a table of contents, a how-to page, a description of the subject, and a diagram. The books ended with an "About the Author" page including a photo.
Ella Baker shared her book, All About Tennis. She included helpful advice, like "Take a water break," along with a list of the equipment you need to play tennis.
Claire Martin's book, All About Cats, included a warning: "Cats bite when they do not want to play." She described how to play with a cat using string and how cats can be opposites - some are big and some are small.
In his book, All About Soccer, Drew Albert discussed how "Soccer is a sport that is played with a ball." He included a diagram of a soccer field.
Visitors to the class were quite impressed. "They did such an amazing job on their books and on reading them out loud," says Kelly Viseur, Spanish teacher. "I wish I could have listened to all the students share their books."
