Boundaries Training for Faculty and Staff

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safe environment for our students, all Graland faculty and staff participated in training on adult-student boundaries and risk avoidance last week. Attorney David Wolowitz was invited back for a second year to directly address behavior awareness and approaches as they relate to roles, boundaries, power and accountability, specifically the importance of modeling professionalism while supporting students. “This training is about our whole community rallying around a clear focus on student safety and overall well-being,” shares Josh Cobb, Head of School.

Held on a professional development day, the workshop was part of annual efforts to ensure a safe, supportive learning environment with a healthy school culture. Training was mandatory for all faculty and staff, child care teachers and substitute teachers; tutors and before/after school enrichment instructors also attended. Discussion included case examples where participants were involved in evaluating appropriate and inappropriate adult-student boundaries and developing awareness individually and as a community.

Mr. Wolowitz advises independent schools nationwide and internationally on all aspects of risk avoidance and crisis management. He is a pioneer in applying behavioral risk management concepts to promote healthy school cultures. His approach puts the responsibility on the community as a whole to take responsibility for everyone’s safety.
