With over 30 years of teaching experience, Ms. Barone is an essential part of the Pre-K Team. She models a love of learning as she continually observes and practices new strategies for academics.
Impacting Students
I enjoy creating a culture within the classroom of community, caring, kindness and accountability. This is not so much a 'lesson plan,' it is pervasive throughout the year in the books I have chosen to read, the photos within the classroom (of the students and their families), the words I use to speak to the children, the tone of my voice, the classroom rules generated by the students, the problem solving of social issues (within the classroom). I could go on and on. This impacts the children in such a way that the classroom becomes a strong community.
Lifelong Learner
When a colleague presented a training for the ECLC staff, the content was something I was familiar with from a previous job. But her presentation was altogether different - she presented the material in a practical and useful way. She created a caring and safe environment for us all to express ourselves and concerns and issues. For me, it brought the team together.
Teaching Inspiration
I became a teacher because of my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Hodge. I struggled with math (long division) for months and months. He was always encouraging. He used humor to lighten my frustration and anxiety in approaching tests. He chose to be a teacher instead of a model (he WAS that good looking and was a part time model for Sears!) which said a lot about his character and love of teaching.
