Kindergarten students brought the spirit of the Winter Games to campus by hosting their own Kindergarten Olympics.
Leading up to the event, a representative from the Denver Curling Club visited Graland to introduce students to the sport of curling. Bringing a curling rock, she explained how the game is played and demonstrated how athletes guide the rock toward a target. Students then tried curling in their classrooms, practicing control as they aimed for the center.
The Kindergarten Olympics began with an Opening Ceremony. Each class selected a team color and created flags to represent their group before rotating through events hosted in classrooms and in the Fieldhouse. Activities included modified figure skating, speed skating, alpine skiing, snowboarding, skeleton racing, luge, bobsledding, and indoor skiing challenges.
From bobsledding to speed skating, students built both gross and fine motor skills while taking part in the spirit of the games. The day ended with a Closing Ceremony on the playground.
The Olympic theme extended beyond kindergarten, as a Lower School assembly featured an Educator Winter Olympics with faculty participants.
