Grade 7: Mic Drop for Change

Ahead of their trip to Washington, D.C., this spring, seventh graders in history class with Mr. Jeff Wolkoff worked on a podcasting project focused on proposing meaningful changes to Graland.
Students began by learning how a bill becomes a law and then applied that process by writing individual bills that proposed changes at school. Similar ideas were grouped together, and seventh graders formed committees to collaborate, refine, and strengthen their proposals.

As part of the project, seventh graders learned how to structure and produce a podcast and met with a professional podcaster via Zoom. Each Grade 7 podcast featured interviews with fellow students as well as a teacher or administrator, allowing students to gather different perspectives and strengthen their proposals.

Once the podcasts were completed, the class listened to them together, and the strongest proposals were shared with school leadership. In past years, student podcast projects have led to real changes on campus, including updates to the dress code, increased student choice for clubs, and the installation of a safety net to protect ECLC students on the playground during soccer games.
