Eighth Graders Make an Impact During Capstone Day of Service

As part of their final year at Graland, eighth graders have spent the year engaged in Capstone projects tied to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. After months of research, writing, and service learning, students had the opportunity to take action through an individual Day of Service connected to their project topic.
On their Capstone Day of Service, students volunteered at organizations across the Denver area that aligned with the issues they studied. Some helped protect natural spaces with The Nature Conservancy and the Rocky Mountain Field Institute, while others supported community needs at places like Food for Thought, Clothes to Kids of Denver, A Precious Child, and Project C.U.R.E. Students also worked with organizations focused on animal welfare, water conservation, education, public health, and more.

Earlier in the year, eighth graders participated in class-wide service learning experiences at Project C.U.R.E., Wyatt Academy, Bluff Lake Nature Center, and We Don’t Waste—building a broader understanding of how local efforts connect to global goals. Their Capstone journey will culminate this May with final presentations that showcase their learning, action, and reflections.
