What do you get when you combine math, teamwork, creativity, and mini golf? A life-sized course designed and built by Grade 4 students.
In math class, students designed their own mini golf holes and used area and perimeter calculations to determine how much wood, turf, and other materials they would need for construction.
Students then brought their ideas to the Gates Invention and Innovation Lab, where they worked in teams to combine their designs into one final mini golf course. Over several days, they built the course while learning how to safely use power tools under adult supervision.
Once the project was complete, Grade 4 students invited their Kindergarten buddies to the Allon Quad to test out the course. The project gave students an opportunity to apply classroom learning through a design-and-build challenge while sharing their work with younger students across campus.
