Middle Schoolers Share Trimester 2 Learning
At an assembly on Wednesday, Grades 5-8 presented samples of their learning from the last trimester and awards were given to language, math, science, history and English students for subject matter excellence.

Grade 5: Name Stories
Fifth graders were serving at the Denver Zoo but presented a video on a recent English project. For “Name Stories,” they researched the history of their names and wrote about the country of origin, meaning, significance and why their parents chose the name.
Grade 6: Science
Sixth graders studied food and energy use in science, bringing in math concepts as well. Measuring calories and analyzing the resources used to bring food from farm to table were part of the lesson.
Grade 7: Service Learning
Seventh graders presented their service learning program on Alzheimer’s disease, describing the multidisciplinary aspects of the unit that involved building relationships with senior citizens, reading relevant literature, writing meaningful biographies, researching a critical question, studying the brain and creating shadow box tributes to significant loved ones.
Grade 8: Science
Eighth graders reported on their chemistry unit and shared a video of a recent lab experiment in which they manipulated the ratio of hydrogen atoms to oxygen atoms to propel a plastic tube as far as possible.
