Fifth graders have been at work since last month on their knighting unit, a Graland rite of passage dating back decades.

During the next two weeks they will finish painting their shields according to the symbolism and colors used in heraldry. They will also finalize their Knighting speeches, a collaborative effort involving history, drama and literacy skills that describes their qualifications and goals as Knights.

Now serving their households as pages, they will advance to squires before being allowed to entire the Knighting chamber. For information: Mitch Masters.
