Did you know that Grade 7 Math Teacher Mr. Gregory Montoya first discovered Graland through his nieces and nephew, who attended the school for Middle School? Originally from Colorado, Mr. Montoya loves exploring all that the state has to offer — from mountains to meaningful learning opportunities.
Impacting Students
I love seeing the moment when a student’s face lights up with understanding during a challenging math lesson, especially when they apply that knowledge to a real-world project and feel empowered by their progress. Facilitating these “aha” moments is the highlight of my teaching career.
Favorite Graland Tradition
I especially enjoy traditions that bring the Graland community together—whether it’s buddy time, Community Day, or the end-of-year Carnival. It’s meaningful to watch students, families, and staff connect and celebrate how far they’ve come.
Lifelong Learner
I stay curious and engaged by exploring new educational technologies, collaborating with colleagues, and continuously reflecting on how I can best support student learning. I’m also an advocate for incorporating social justice and real-world problem-solving into math education.
Life Goals
To inspire students to see math as a powerful tool for understanding the world around them—and to keep exploring how education can evolve in creative and meaningful ways.
Other Than Graland, I Support...
CIRCLE, a nonprofit organization that fosters inclusive, responsive communities through education. I volunteer with high school students to help organize the STAMP Conference for middle schoolers every October.
