Middle Schoolers Bring Cool Ideas to Horizons Graland
This spring, Graland Middle School students were invited to bring their creativity to a new challenge: design the very first popsicle cart for the Horizons Graland summer program. Working individually or in small groups, students submitted vibrant, eye-catching designs that captured the spirit of summer, joy, and community—core themes at the heart of Horizons Graland.
The project was led by Horizons Graland Executive Director Christi James and supported by Middle School teachers and the art department. After reviewing all submissions, a panel of judges selected one winning design, created by seventh grader Ella B. To bring her design to life, Ella teamed up with Middle School students and Horizons Middle School volunteers Korina V-G, Alex C., and Lily Z. to paint the cheerful artwork onto the cart.
The finished popsicle cart will make its debut this summer as a colorful and fun fixture during afternoon snack time at Horizons Graland. Naturally, the student artists were rewarded with popsicles of their own!

The program also offers year-round engagement through Super Saturday gatherings, which give students and families opportunities to stay connected and continue learning together. Now in its second year, Horizons Graland reflects Graland’s mission to build community and extend purposeful learning beyond the traditional school year.
