Pre-K: Exploring the Five Senses With the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Graland’s Pre-K students recently welcomed educators from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science for a hands-on exploration of the five senses. Through interactive stations, children used sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell to make discoveries about the world around them, just like real scientists.
At each station, students transformed into animals local to Colorado, complete with creative costumes that brought their roles to life. Dressed as chipmunks, they used their sense of smell to find hidden acorns. As birds, they practiced listening for matching bird calls. They then became rattlesnakes, using their sight to detect “heat” and catch a mouse. Turning into spiders, they used their sense of touch to feel flies buzzing in a web, and finally, they climbed through a log as raccoons, using their sense of taste to gather ingredients for “raccoon soup.”

This imaginative experience brought science to life, helping Pre-K students connect sensory exploration to observation, problem-solving, and curiosity about the natural world.
