Grade 3: Chief Mountain Hike Through An Artist’s Lens

In preparation for their Chief Mountain Hike this September, third graders created field guides in art class and learned how to draw from observation.
Guided by Graland’s resident horticulturist, Sarah Love, each Grade 3 class received a tour of the plants that live on campus. During this time, students got to practice sketching on campus before adding to their field guides during the Chief Mountain Hike. After returning from their big adventure, the third graders began their studies of Western landscapes featured in the Denver Art Museum’s collection. Currently, students are working on creating pastel landscapes of their own.
